Updated on September 16, 2023, by Dennis Moiseyev: The Nintendo Switch continues to experience a surge of new first-person shooter games in its library. An exciting remastered classic game and a new modern retro first-person shooter game have arrived on the console in recent months. In addition to these new titles, there are many other thrilling first-person shooter experiences that have been available on the console for some time and should not be overlooked.

15 Bulletstorm: Duke Of Switch Edition

15 Best FPS Games On Nintendo Switch

The popular action hero of gaming is back on the Nintendo Switch, albeit not in his own game, but as an addition to the first-person shooter title Bulletstorm from 2011. In this 2019 version, you have the opportunity to play the game entirely as Duke Nukem instead of Grayson Hunt, with the original voice actor reprising the role.

The world of Bulletstorm looks better than ever in the Duke of Switch Edition, with its picturesque environment and the shooting gameplay that allows you to juggle enemies and execute unique kills with the Skillshot system. And if the gameplay and weapons feel somewhat familiar, it's because it's a first-person shooter adventure from Epic and People Can Fly, the developers of the first Gears of War and Judgment.

14 Quake 2 (2023)

15 Best FPS Games On Nintendo

Twenty-six years after its release, Quake 2 by id Software has received a remaster and comes with some additional goodies, such as improved 4K and widescreen support, as well as a brand-new campaign expansion called "Call of the Machine," which offers 28 original levels developed by Machine Games. If you haven't jumped into Quake yet, now is the time.

And in case your friends don't own a Switch and prefer playing on PC, Xbox, or PlayStation, there is cross-platform play available in addition to regular online and local multiplayer. The sci-fi story and shooter gameplay draw inspiration from the early Doom and Wolfenstein games, but here, you fight as a lone wolf against a militarized alien race called the Strogg.

13 The House Of The Dead Remake

15 Best FPS Games On

The House of the Dead was the arcade response to Resident Evil and evolved into a standalone and highly popular series. Now, the original game from 1997 has finally received a remake and has been ported to the Switch. The game offers the nostalgic gameplay of a rail shooter from a first-person perspective, which may be familiar to you, but with modernized graphics, enemy designs, and user interface.

There is a story with three possible endings and a local multiplayer mode. The developers have also added a photo mode so that you can capture some of your favorite moments with Dr. Curien before moving on to the next phase of the game in his eerie mansion.

12 Borderlands Legendary Collection

15 Best FPS Games

Borderlands is not only a phenomenal first-person shooter series but also one of the best science fiction games on the Nintendo Switch, where you fight against the greediest corporations alongside well-developed and often hilarious characters. And this collection includes the original game, Borderlands 2, and The Pre-Sequel.

Aside from the humor, the main features of this game are the looter-shooter RPG systems and an original visual style that is unmatched in any other game of this genre. The sequel also introduces one of the most infamous villains in gaming, CEO Handsome Jack, whose heterochromia is likely the mildest characteristic about him.

11 Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun

15 Best FPS

The latest first-person shooter installment in the Warhammer 40K series draws inspiration from the aesthetics of retro games, following the trend of increasingly more modern FPS titles. It is a blend of Prodeus and the original Doom in terms of mechanics, graphics, and depiction of violence, proudly carrying the label of a "Boomer Shooter."

Once again, you assume the role of a Space Marine in a science fiction setting, several thousand years in the future, and bloody fight your way around Graia. This Space Marine is named Malum Caedo and is voiced by Rahul Kohli, who is also involved in Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical and has appeared in several Netflix series by Mike Flanagan, such as Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and The Fall of the House of Usher.

10 Neon White

15 Best

This one is unlike any other first-person shooter you have experienced before, truly giving the genre an incredibly unique touch.

In Neon White, you are the titular assassin sent to the heavens to eliminate demons while engaging in parkour and competing for speed and time. The weapons are also card-based and come in the form of soul cards.

As a result, your screen won't even show your character wielding the weapon but instead will appear in one corner of your screen, while the card in the other corner fires ammunition at enemies. It blends cards, platform gameplay, and first-person shooting while presenting character interactions in the style of a visual novel.

9 Dusk

15

Although developed in 2018, Dusk transports you back to the 1990s with its classic Doom and Quake-inspired first-person shooter graphics. It is a shooter with a stronger horror element, offering level-based gameplay in an episodic structure.

Throughout three episodes, you encounter a mix of eerie cultists and other creepy creatures that evoke a completely Lovecraftian atmosphere.

Similar to the self-proclaimed Doomguy, you are a nameless protagonist who ventures into the heart of Dusk, Pennsylvania. What was intended to be an innocent treasure adventure turns into a nightmare of survival. Armed with a selection of weapons, it's time for the possessed residents of Dusk to learn who they're dealing with.

8 Metro Redux

The Metro games are based on the novels by Dmitry Glukhovsky. Although the Nintendo Switch still doesn't have Metro Exodus, the Redux double feature of Metro 2033 and Last Light is equally fantastic.

These games tell a post-apocalyptic science fiction story of an alien species called the Dark Ones, who take over Moscow after the destruction of a nuclear war.

Throughout the series, you play as Artyom, who chronicles the events as he undertakes missions against mutated creatures in the wasteland and encounters hostile factions of soldiers. You have interesting weapons that you can upgrade, and you experience many intense moments as you navigate the Metro tunnels beneath Moscow.

7 Bright Memory: Infinite

Also set in the 2030s, this captivating futuristic first-person shooter game called Bright Memory: Infinite takes place. It is a hybrid sequel and expansion of the remake of Bright Memory: Episode One.

In addition to its stunning graphics and visual gameplay elements, Bright Memory also offers melee action where you can deflect bullets and juggle enemies using a secondary sword weapon.

You are an agent of the Organization for Supernatural Science Research called Shelia Tan, and you are sent into the field following a strange global weather event. The investigation leads you to battle against enemy soldier units and ancient colossal bosses amidst a picturesque landscape, and you have an exosuit that grants you additional supernatural abilities.

6 Crysis Remastered Trilogy

Speaking of first-person shooter games with picturesque vistas and special suits, the remastered Crysis trilogy has been ported to the Switch. The original game was released in 2007, and this new version brings even more stylish charm and impressive graphics to the Lingshan Islands, infested by enemy soldiers and aliens.

As the nanosuit-armored soldier named Nomad, you can strategically utilize your invisibility to attack enemies or cause a significant amount of environmental destruction through weapon-laden approaches. It is another outstanding FPS series that combines the military shooter genre with a science-fiction touch and introduces a unique alien species called the Ceph.

5 Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus And Youngblood

Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus and its spin-off sequel that follows the two daughters of B.J. in Youngblood are the only titles in the series available on the Switch, and both offer completely different FPS experiences. Wolfenstein 2 is strictly a single-player game about B.J. Blazkowicz and his crew, who continue to fight Nazis and their chaotic leader, Irene Engel, in the United States.

On the other hand, Wolfenstein: Youngblood is a co-op game where you can take control of one of the Blazkowicz twins. However, both games offer the same high-octane, brutal action of slaughtering Nazis, with elements of stealth and the simultaneous use of two weapons. So, you can also expect to encounter massive enemy mechs like Panzerhunds and Übersoldaten.

4 Prodeus

Prodeus delivers another solid example of a modern FPS game with a retro aesthetic approach, designed with a dual art style combining pixel and 3D elements. It shares many similarities with Doom, including enemy design and exaggerated violence, although it deviates from the perspective of the suit's user interface as you cannot see through the Slayer's helmet.

There are cool particle effects, environments, and a selection of weapons that will surely result in bloodbaths. Another entertaining aspect of this game is that it also offers a multiplayer mode and an implemented level editor. This allows you to create your own levels or try out levels designed by other players.

3 BioShock: The Collection

The BioShock games take place in alternative historical timelines and showcase dystopian worlds with a unique atmosphere. This collection includes all three games in remastered form.

The first two installments of the series take place in an underwater city called Rapture, which is not as wonderful as it initially seems. And you quickly discover that it is inhabited by uniquely terrifying enemies that threaten to destroy it from within.

BioShock Infinite takes place in the sky instead of beneath the sea, and it takes you to the floating civilization of Columbia. It has its own deeply rooted problems, and you will need the assistance of a companion to escape.

In addition to the classic FPS weapons, you also have enhanced abilities called Plasmids and Vigors, which allow you to shock or burn enemies.

2 Doom (2016) And Doom Eternal

The Hellwalker, the myth, the legend. Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal send the Doom Slayer to drench the screens of your Switch with copious amounts of demonic blood as he continues his battle against the legions of Hell.

These are two excellent options for an FPS game due to their thrilling enemy and level designs, gripping storylines, smooth gameplay, and impeccably written dialogues.

The sequel expands upon everything that the 2016 game offers and improves upon the level layouts, enemies, and challenging boss fights. You have the same system for upgrading weapons and firing different types of ammunition, and an AI that guides you through the missions. However, now more parkour elements are introduced as well.

1 Metroid Prime Remastered

The opportunity to play as Samus Aran from a first-person perspective finally came in 2002 with Metroid Prime. And now, you can once again step into Samus' power suit and utilize its full functionality to hunt down the Chozo species on Tallon IV in this exclusive 2023 remaster for the Switch.

With a wave of fantastic remakes like Dead Space and Resident Evil 4, this one definitely belongs among them.

This entry in the Metroid series was the one that significantly changed the mechanics and aesthetics, moving away from the roots of third-person Metroidvania platformers and evolving into an action-packed first-person shooter with puzzles and target-locking. Everything from the original 2002 game returns in a modernized form, including the morph ball form and the ever-present Ridley, of course.
